For the 1st two weeks of school...
1st Graders made "Name Pile Art". Students practiced tracing each letter in their 1st name. Next they outlined their names with black crayon and proceeded to color each letter a different color. The last step was to add abstract lines in between the letters. 5th and 3rd Graders learned how to create 3D art. Students learned the meaning of analogous colors. They chose two colors that are next to each other on the color wheel to color and shade their names. 7th Graders used a "reflector" to create a mirror image of their name. They created this image multiple times on a square piece of paper. The final image "plays with your eyes" and is really impressive. |
In preparation for Veteran's Day, we read the book "The Wall" by Eve Bunting. We learned all about the Vietnam War. We were asked to create art projects to honor our neighborhood Veterans who will come to the Veteran's Day Assembly at Healy School. Our Veteran's Day projects will be displayed in the auditorium for the assembly. Yeah Artists!

Art students were re-introduced to the works of Kandinsky. For this project we focused on his work entitled "Squares and Concentric Circles". Each grade completed their interpretation of Kandinsky's artwork.
7th Graders used compasses and crayons to make their masterpiece. 5th Graders used white oil pastels and watercolors. 3rd Graders used oil pastels to create concentric circles. 1st Graders used colored construction paper to create their version of a Kandinsky. |
1st grade artists began this project learning about Vincent Van Gogh. We focused on his painting entitled Starry Night. We used tracers to make our city, using only cool colors. We also added swirls, a moon, and stars to our sky, just like Van Gogh. The finished product looks just like downtown Chicago!
Wow, look at these 3rd grade "shape cities". We learned what "bird's eye view" means for this project. The "photographer" is looking at this project from above. Therefore, you can't see any doors or streets in our drawings. We started by drawing several shapes around our paper. We then added the sides of the buildings, working from the bottom of the paper up. We then added creative and fun details, making sure our entire paper is filled with color. |
Check out our aquarium and city scene one-point-perspectives. We learned three important art terms while completing this project: horizon line, vanishing point, and one point perspective. For this project, we have one horizon line and one vanishing point, directly in the center of the paper. In order to complete this project we used several art mediums: pencil, marker, colored pencils, and paint. These turned out quite splendid.

Healy students did an amazing job on their Chinese New Year projects. They look just stunning. 7th Grade showed their shading skills with their realistic panda as well as their ability to paint delicately on their water color panda. 5th Grade used oil pastels to draw and color their beautiful koi fish. They then painted the background to resemble real water! 3rd Grade used markers, oil pastels, and paint to complete their lovely Chinese New Year Lions. Last but not least, 1st Grade used oil pastels and paint to create these stunning Chinese New Year Lanterns.

Students completed winter birch trees that look realistic with a pop of color. Each grade used different artistic skills to complete their birch trees. 7th Graders used oil pastels, water colors, and salt to complete their trees while 5th graders used tissue paper. Both 3rd and 1st graders used water colors to complete their different masterpieces. Way to go artists!

We took inspiration from the famous artist Keith Haring for this project. He became very famous before he turned 30 for his subway art in New York City. People just loved his humanoid and animal figures that looked like they were moving. All grades did a fantastic job taking inspiration from Keith Haring! Check out these amazing renditions!

Whoh, look at these owls. Pretty spectacular. 1st Graders created two owls. The first owl was made by ripping paper and creating a mosaic owl! The second owl was made with paint and paper plates. 3rd Graders created an owl that shows dimension. They stuffed their owl with the extra paper making it 3d! 5th Grade used chalk, how cool! Their owls look so soft and smooth. 7th Grade created a close up view of an owl with colored pencils. Their owls are just breathtaking!
